Welcome to the
Central Church of the Brethren

Our church is an enthusiastic, Christ-centered, music-loving congregation with a passion for serving our city, our neighborhood.  We volunteer and provide supplemental food to the local elementary school, Highland Park.  We help individual families get back on their feet after difficult economic times.  Our concern for racial justice is reflected in our Lincoln Terrace book project which provides books for students and the school.  We are people of all ages, some who are new to Central and others have been members for 50+ years.

Open and Affirming Welcome Statement

Central Church of the Brethren is a faith community that seeks to follow the life example of Jesus Christ.  As such, we are called to believe in Jesus as Lord, connected with unconditional love for one another, and compelled to serve our neighborhood, our City and beyond.

We honor the diversity that is present in creation, believing it to be good and an expression of God’s spirit.  To that end, we wholeheartedly affirm, welcome and celebrate all people regardless of racial identity, ethnicity, native language, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, age, legal status, religious background, social or economic status.

We recognize that our society has not been a welcoming place for all people and that we are entangled in webs of injustice and discrimination.  We confess that we are still working to dismantle these systems of injustice within ourselves and our congregation.

As followers of Jesus, we strive to be a Beloved Community where everyone is welcome and named as beloved.  We commit both as individuals and as a congregation to support those who are vulnerable and marginalized and hope to be a place of refuge and restoration for all God’s Children.
